How to score the GFTA-3? ›

When scoring the GFTA-3, the therapist calculates a raw score by totalling the number of correct responses for each subtest. Using the manual, the raw score can be converted to a standard score. The standard score provides a measure of the client's performance relative to a normative sample.

The GFTA-3 (Goldman & Fristoe, 2015) classifies severity ratings based on standard scores as average/above average above 85, mild/at-risk −1 SD (between 78 and 85), moderate −1.5 SD (between 71 and 77), and severe −2 SD or lower (70 or below).

The GFTA-3 is an individually administered standardized assessment used to measure speech sound abilities in the area of articulation in children, adolescents, and young adults ages 2 years 0 months through 21 years 11 months.

During administration of the Sounds-in-Sentences test, the examiner listens to each sentence the individual repeats and rates the individual's intelligibility for that sentence as 1 (good), 2 (fair), 3 (poor), or 4 (no response).

Assess multiple occurrences of high frequency phonemes in the same amount of time (under 15 minutes). Quickly and easily administer and score.

Recording distortions may require narrow transcription using diacritic marks. Transcribe the response in the Response column. Then refer to the adjacent Initial, Medial, and Final columns. Mark through each distorted phoneme and write the phoneme and diacritic mark in the space provided.

The GFTA-3 provides standardized scores with a mean score of 100, and a standard deviation of 15. Standard scores between 85 and 115 are considered to be within the typical range.

Briefly, in this test, listeners rate the intelligibility of test passages on an equal-appearing interval scale from 0 to 100. A rating of 0 should reflect a situation in which none of the words is understood and a score of 100 would represent a situation in which all of the words are understood.

There are two general methods for assessing intelligibility: transcription and rating.

The ICS includes seven questions specifying different communication partners including parents themselves, immediate family, extended family, friends, acquaintances, teachers, and strangers. The ratings of the seven individual items are averaged to obtain an overall score (i.e., composite score).

Scores on the 16PF are presented on a 10-point scale, or standard-ten scale. The sten scale has a mean of 5.5 and a standard deviation of 2, with scores below 4 considered low and scores above 7 considered high. The sten scales are bipolar, meaning that each end of the scale has a distinct definition and meaning.
