What is the plot of The Evil Within? ›

Plot. While investigating the scene of a mass murder at Beacon Mental Hospital, Krimson City Police Detective Sergeant Sebastian Castellanos, his partner Joseph Oda, police officer Oscar Connelly, and Junior Detective Juli Kidman find themselves suddenly thrown into an unreal world, after hearing a high-pitched noise.

The game is terrifying - often in a stressful way - and there's no way young kids should play it. There is a story, but it's bewildering and involves sadism and mental cruelty, with references to psychosis, suicide, self-harm, murder, arson and the deaths of children. The monsters and the environments are nightmarish.

In The Interlude, issue 1, Sebastian is under the impression that Joseph was killed. In The Evil Within 2, Kidman confirms to Sebastian during the final slide moment that Joseph is indeed alive, but she does not elaborate on this topic further.

Ruben ''Ruvik'' Victoriano is the main antagonist of the 2014 survival horror videogame The Evil Within, and a major antagonist in its DLC: The Assignment and The Consequence. Ruvik is a thin, sharp-featured man who is heavily disfigured with various burns and scars, giving him the appearance of a walking cadaver.

Despite being shot by Kidman, Joseph is implied to still be alive. For example near the end of the DLC Joseph can be seen being carried away by two agents. However, Kidman orders the deceased Connelly and Jimenez to be left behind and Sebastian (though Kidman was faking he was dead so he had the chance to escape).

Fate. Sebastian witnesses one final vision of Ruvik before disconnecting Ruvik's own disembodied brain from the STEM and violently stomping on it with his foot, putting an evident end to his existence.

You don't need to have played the first game to play the second. Some elements won't make much sense at first—like how our hero Sebastian Castellanos psychically travels to a supernatural mental hospital to get upgrades—but any confusion becomes easy to ignore once you uncover the setup.

The evil within has got to be one of the most scary games ever. It is very gruesome and violent with very disturbing and dark scenes.

This requires the player to use their wits to survive and correctly manage their few resources as they encounter various terrors and dangers throughout the game.

Laura Victoriano is a minor character and an antagonist who appears in The Evil Within. She was the daughter of Ernesto Victoriano and Beatriz Victoriano and the older sister of Ruben Victoriano who was grievously injured in a barn fire and subsequently died prior to the events of the game.
